Summer Emergencies (EMET) 2018

EMET Pre-learning: Summer Emergencies

In this topic we examine some of the environmental emergencies we may encounter during summer beginning with heat illness and in particular heat exhaustion and the life threatening condition of heat stroke. Next we look at bites and stings and focus on arguably the most dangerous and most feared of all Australian (land based) envenomations - snake bite. We conclude by considering drowning, that may of course occur at any time of year, is more common in the summer months when the use of pools, rivers, lakes and beaches greatly increases and the risk of drowning becomes problematic.
