Deteriorating Patient : Part 4 - Resuscitation (2)
Core Nursing Skills
As we are well aware the initial priority in the deteriorating patient is to identify immediate threats to the patient and this is aided by applying a systematic approach to assessment looking especially for clues to immediate life threats such as airway obstruction, hypoxia, shock and hypoglycaemia. In this second topic on "Resuscitation" we continue our journey through this topic and explore interventions that may be used at the bedside to respond to life threats to the circulation.
This is an exciting area of resuscitation as we really can make a difference to a patient's chances of survival by recognising the early signs of circulatory shock, arranging IV access and commencing immediate IV fluid resuscitation.
