Blood Gases are important in the assessment of the patient with disordered acid-base balance. This module introduce the basic principles for reading blood gas results to identify single and mixed acid base disorders. In contrast to other modules where a Case Simulation is used to teach the topic, in this module a series of short (5 minute) videos are used to outline the core principles. After each set of videos a short exercise follows that allows you to apply the principles discussed in the video to the interpretation of blood gases. Blood gas interpretation is a very practical skill and the exercises allow you to practice recognising the patterns associated with single and mixed acid base disorders.
