EDGE24 Module 4 : ECG Interpretation (1) Arrhythmias
Latest Course Update: January 2024
Skills in ECG interpretation are central to the assessment and management of patients presenting with chest pain, syncope, palpitations and shortness of breath. Arrhythmias are common and although in many cases the ECG diagnosis is relatively straight forward however this is not always the case and a systematic approach to reading the ECG is important to avoid misdiagnosis and risk of incorrect treatment.
In this module we explore some basic principles with respect to the ECG interpretation, outline a systematic approach to reading an ECG and then focus on the ECG diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias. The approach is intended to be highly practical and able to be immediately applied to the clinical care of the emergency patient.
