Which Course for Me ??
The TEN-360 POCUS workshop is an entry level, low cost, half day introductory workshop is suited to medical professionals, nurse practitioners, nurses and paramedics with no (or minimal) previous experience with bedside ultrasound.
For most learners the two day POCUS - Core Emergency or POCUS - Core Primary Care courses provide intensive hands-on training that builds confidence and competence to incorporate POCUS into hospital or community based clinical practice. Both courses introduce the learner to a broad range of uses for ultrasound as an aid to diagnosis and for assisting clinical procedures.
The one day POCUS for Midwifery Practice builds confidence in the use of ultrasound in the first and third trimester and is designed for the midwifery student and midwifes wishing to learn ultrasound or extend their skills.
The POCUS - Anaesthesia, POCUS - Obstetric and POCUS - Advanced Emergency Medicine workshops are designed for Rural generalists/Specialists and Trainees in the areas of anaesthesia, obstetrics and emergency medicine. While some experience with ultrasound is helpful the workshops may be easily undertaken by medical officers with minimal or no preexisting knowledge or experience as well as the experienced MO who wishes to upskill/extend their use in Ultrasound in the area of anaesthesia, obstetrics and emergency medicine.
The POCUS-FELS and the POCUS-LBR workshops assume the core knowledge and skills covered in POCUS - Core Emergency/Primary Care workshops.

More about each of the Workshops
TEN-360: Introduction to POCUS (Half Day)
This entry level half day introductory workshop is suited to nurses, medical professionals, nurse practitioners and paramedics with little or no experience with ultrasound. The workshop will assist the leaner to become confident to switch on and setup a range of common ultrasound machines, identify the types of probes and their uses for POCUS, how to change / switch between probes and become familiar with the core fundamentals for image optimisation.
The workshop allows the learner to become familiar with an ultrasound technique of their choice enabling them to incorporate their POCUS training into clinical practice. Options for the choice of a technique include ultrasound guided IV cannulation, nerve block, venesection or joint injection/aspiration and bedside ultrasound assessment of bladder, DVT and Pneumothorax
(Please note: Learners may select only one of the above techniques in this short workshop).

POCUS for Midwifery Practice (One day)
This one-day workshop is designed to assist Midwives to become confident with the use of POCUS for assessment of patients in the First and Third Trimester. The course assists midwives to become confident to setup a range of common ultrasound machines, identify the types of probes they may use in their practice become familiar with the core fundamentals for image optimisation. The course will focus on providing the knowledge and hands on training required for the ultrasound assessment of fetal heart rate, placental location, liquor volume and presentation.
POCUS – Core Emergency (Two-day)
This two-day comprehensive workshop is suited to all learners from those with no experience of ultrasound through to those with experience but desiring to refresh or extend their skills. The course allows the learner to become confident to operate the ultrasound machine, use the common probes used in POCUS (linear, curvilinear and cardiac) and gain competence with optimising the image.
The course utilises hands on training and simulation to build the skills and knowledge required for the ultrasound assessment for abdominal aortic aneurysm, DVT and pneumothorax, to perform a FAST/eFAST exam in a trauma patient and to undertake a RUSH examination (including basic echocardiography) to assist in the assessment and management of the patient with shock.
The workshop also provides training in a wide range of ultrasound procedures including pleurocentesis/paracentesis, pericardiocentesis, suprapubic catheter insertion and a range of ultrasound guided procedures including IV cannulation and fascia iliaca nerve block.

POCUS – Core Primary Care (Two-day)
This two-day comprehensive workshop is suited to all learners from those with no experience of ultrasound through to those with experience but desiring to refresh or extend their skills. The course allows the learner to become confident to operate the ultrasound machine, use the common probes used in POCUS (linear, curvilinear and cardiac) and gain competence with optimising the image.
The course utilises hands on training and simulation to build the skills and knowledge required for the use of ultrasound in primary care for the assessment of the abdominal aorta, lower limb (for possible DVT), lung (for pneumothorax, consolidation, lung effusion), first trimester (e.g. for assessment of first trimester bleeding/pain), bladder, wound assessment for foreign body and long bone fracture.
The workshop also provides training in a range of ultrasound procedures suited to primary care including venesection, IV cannulation and joint injection / aspiration.
POCUS - FELS (One day)
The POCUS - FELS: Focused Echocardiography in Life Support course explores the use of bedside echocardiography and ultrasound of the inferior vena cava for the assessment in the patient with shock and in cardiac arrest.
The workshop focuses on the application of ultrasound to examination of the IVC and the Heart and provides the bedside training and simulation to become confident with ultrasound anatomy and pathophysiology and the application of ultrasound to the bedside assessment of Cardiac Tamponade, Cardiogenic Shock, Pulmonary Embolism and Hypovolaemia.
Please Note: This course is not an entry level course and is designed to allows the learner to extend their knowledge and skills in bedside ultrasound and assumes prior ultrasound knowledge such as that covered in the POCUS (two day) emergency or primary care workshop.

POCUS – LBR (One day)
The POCUS - LBR: Liver, Biliary and Renal tract course explores the use of bedside ultrasound for examination of the gallbladder, liver, CBD, kidney and urinary tract.
The workshop provides the bedside training and simulation to become confident with ultrasound anatomy and pathophysiology and the application of ultrasound to the bedside assessment for pathology of the Gallbladder and CBD (including Gallstones, Cholecystitis and Obstruction of the CBD) and to identify pathology of the Kidney and urinary tract (including Renal calculi, Hydronephrosis and Renal cysts).
Please Note: This course is not an entry level course and is designed to allow the learner to extend their knowledge and skills in bedside ultrasound and assumes prior ultrasound knowledge such as that covered in the POCUS (two day) emergency or primary care workshop.
