EDGE24 Module 8 : Acute Pulmonary Oedema and CPAP
Latest Course Update: January 2024
Respiratory distress is a common acute presenting symptom. While the Primary Survey will direct us to apply oxygen as part of the initial management of the patient presenting with severe respiratory distress this in fact is only the starting point for care for the patient with severe respiratory distress where we need to move quickly to initiating definitive treatment of the underlying condition.
In this module we focus on patients presenting with the clinical features suggestive for acute pulmonary oedema and consider the treatment options for this common life threatening presentation. In particular we explore the use of noninvasive ventilation for treating severe respiratory distress. We hope you find this topic a useful introduction to this fascinating and exciting area of emergency medicine.
