Advanced Life Support : Part 1 - Basic Life Support

Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Basic Life Support

Latest Course update : January 2019

Management of cardiac arrest is a critical skill for nurses. Regularly updating skills and knowledge with regard to CPR is critical as cardiac arrest frequently occurs without warning and mandates an immediate recognition of arrest and institution of CPR.  How we respond to the patient with cardiac arrest in the first minute may significantly determine their chances of survival, risk for complications, and long-term disability.

The course is divided into five parts :

Part (1) : Basic Life Support

Part (2) : Advanced Life Support (1) : Charge and Check procedure, Shockable Algorithm, Responding to the return of circulation

Part (3) : Advanced Life Support (2) : Reversible causes for arrest, Non-Shockable Algorithm, Deciding when to stop CPR

Part (4) : Managing Foreign Body Airway Obstruction

Part (5) : Responding to Paediatric Cardiac Arrest

This course will prepare you for when your patients, friends, relatives or a stranger develops cardiac arrest and needs our trained assistance. In this first topic in the series we focus on Basic CPR and consider the identifying features for cardiac arrest and the procedure for initiating basic life support.
