Bedside Emergency Ultrasound (3): BELS Protocol, Basic Echocardiography, IVC Ultrasound (2021)

The course explores the valuable role Beside Ultrasound may play in the assessment of the critically ill patient by examination of the IVC and to the Heart. The course examines how to use ultrasound to assess the circulatory fluid volume in a patient with shock to determine the need for further fluid resuscitation is required or whether inotropes should be commenced and introduces the cardiac views used to identify left ventricular dysfunction, pericardial tamponade and right ventricular dilatation due to pulmonary embolism.

  • IVC examination and assessment of Circulatory Volume

  • Parasternal view and assessment of Left Ventricle Function

  • Subxiphoid view and assessment for Pericardial Tamponade

  • Apical and assessment of the Right Ventricle
