EDGE24 Module 3 : Acute Chest Pain

Latest Course Update: January 2024

Acute Chest painIn this module we explore the clinical approach the acute chest pain focusing our attention on searching out the clinical clues to life threatening diseases such as acute coronary syndrome or pulmonary embolism. This is critical on two accounts : Firstly we wish to avoid missing serious disease with a risk that the patient may be sent home. Secondly we know that in acute coronary syndrome the earlier we identify disease the earlier we can initiate interventions reduce morbidity and mortality.

Time is critical in assessing the patient with chest pain and we need to approach assessment systematically to identify / exclude serious disease. In this module we take on this challenge and outline how to approach to these patients in a way that will allow early recognition of serious disease and trigger appropriate interventions that reduce morbidity and mortality.
