EDGE24 Module 18 : Major Trauma
Latest Course Update: January 2024
Although the initial management of the trauma patient, follows a structure very similar to the management of other life threatening presentations, the assessment and management of the trauma patient is complicated by the possibility of multiple life threats due to concomitant injuries.
There is a very real concern that some serious injuries may not be identified during the initial assessment. This mandates a comprehensive (head to toe) examination of the patient, use of a wide variety of investigations and continuing review of the patient's clinical condition to identify evolving clinical signs of serious injury. In this module we explore the immediate resuscitation priorities, detailed assessment and cervical spine clearance in the patient presenting following major trauma.
