EDGE24 Module 9 : Blood Gas Interpretation
Latest Course Update: January 2024
Blood Gases are important in the assessment of the patient with disordered acid-base balance. In this module we explore some of the basic principles for reading blood gases focusing on identifying acidosis and alkalosis and distinguishing metabolic from respiratory causes for an abnormal blood gas result.
In contrast to other modules where a Case Simulation is used to teach the topic, this module uses a series of short videos that outline the core principles. After each video is a short exercise that aims to enable you to apply the principles discussed in the video to the interpretation of blood gases. Blood gas interpretation is a very practical skill and the exercises allow you to practice recognising the patterns associated with acid base disorders.
